Description: The 2013 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Beginning in April 1970 Mahalia Jackson and Duke Ellington were the first headliners to appear at this annual festival. With an attendance of 350 music fans that first year the festival has grown to include 12 stages, two weekends (always the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May (the 2nd weekend begins Thursday), thousands of musicians and an attendance of over a half million music fans this has become the preeminent music festival in the country. Encompassing jazz, blues, zydeco, Cajun, gospel, R&B, African, rap, Latin, funk and more the festival satisfies every musical taste and every gastronomic taste as well with some of the best of New Orleans cuisine.
