About this image

At the 2013 Montreal International Jazz Festival - An electrifying exchange with the audience, who sang the Chanson Quebecoise d'Anniversaires as the band took the stage. Without missing a beat, the band started in on their first piece, easily layering the stark modal music on top of the audience's joyous rendition. Pianist Danilo Perez built his solo around the birthday song, quoting and developing the theme brilliantly. Of course, this sparked a great response from the crowd. — with Wayne Shorter, John Pattitucci and Brian Blade.
