Read moreI love jazz because it takes me unexpected places, high and low, rich and deep, emotionally, intellectually and physically. I was first exposed to jazz as a child in dance..along with blues and soul as a teenager. I have met many jazz musicians in NYC. The best from here and around the world. The warmest people in the world (except for Phil Woods, RIP). The best show I ever attended is impossible to say; I must admit Count Basie and Dizzy may top many. The first jazz record I bought was one of Jimmy Smith's when I was 15. Then John Coltrane and so on! My advice to new listeners relax and attend to inner sensations, thrills and chills, explosive joy. Listen every chance you get. Especially in person, live and present. The musician always gives the best. Even with a small audience. Expect everything and nothing. Love and be loved.
